This week we had a very special visitor to Lisnagry school when Kilkenny hurling legend Denis “Rackard Cody” came to talk to us. He had the Leinster cup and the Liam McCarthy to show us. Rackard who for the past 38 years has been involved with and is presently the kit man with the Kilkenny senior team captivated both pupils and teachers alike with a speech which emphasised the importance of self-respect and respect for others if you are to succeed in all areas of life. He also spoke to the senior pupils about the importance of sport and the pitfalls of smoking, drinking and drug taking. Rackard gave us an insight into how professional the game of hurling is now and when the Kilkenny team is in full swing in training, he would be in the dressing room for hours before each session. You could find anything from laces, grips, drinks or plasters in his kit van. Here are some photos from his visit.
