September:
Art
We made a class caterpillar who watches over us while we do all our work in our classroom each day!
We went up, up, up into the sky in our hot air balloons!
We made Autumn trees by doing finger painting!
A walk around the school
We went on a walk around the school to make sure we know where everything is. We had a map and clipboards and our pencils! It was great fun!
Planting
We did some planting with Laura McCarthy. Our jar and bulb are still in the dark in the press in our classroom. We can already see the roots growing out of the bulb! We will be putting the jar out in the light after Halloween!
Ms.Delaney’s Band
We all joined teacher’s band with our shakers and had great craic! We shook, shook, shook all afternoon!
Maths
We love playing Maths games on the Interactive Whiteboard. We do a maths problem every morning in school and we are getting on great with our target boards! Here we are playing some sorting games!
Sinking and Floating
In Science, we looked at items that would sink and float. First we predicted what would happen to the items in the water. We had a big discussion about all different types of boats! Then we made our own boats out of simple items we found in the classroom. We used different types of bases, lollipop sticks, white tac and paper for the sails. It was great fun seeing whether they would sink or float!
Some of us even made our own boats at home!!!
The Doctor’s Surgery
In our Big Box Adventures readers, our friends turned their box into an ambulance in order to help Zeb. We had loads of fun pretending to be doctors and nurses and looking after each other. We also learned about what a first aid bag is and what items are in the first aid bag.
Shape Fun
We spent lots of time learning all about 2D shapes this month and we learned about some very interesting shape friends: Cindy Circle, Tommy Triangle, Sammy Square and Ricky Rectangle. Our new shape friends hid shapes all around our classroom which we had to find. We used a feely box to describe the shapes to our classmates who then had to guess the shapes. We went on a shape hunt all around the school to find different shapes in our environment. They were all over the place!!! We could have kept finding them all day long! I wonder what shapes you could find at home!
Maths Week
We continued with lots of new maths games this month. We are working on our backwards number sequence (counting back from 20 to 0) and we are playing lots of games to help us with our counting: counting tennis, counting choir and count around. We played loads of lovely maths games during maths week. We used cubes, beads, spools, laces, counters and links. Look at us here, hard at work.

Halloween
Halloween was such an exciting time for us in Senior Infants. We did loads of lovely Halloween activities. We made Halloween silhouettes and made paper plate spiders, pumpkins and ghosts in art.
The Jungle
This month we learned all about the jungle. It was brilliant learning about the jungle. We sang some really funny jungle songs. Our favourite was ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’. We got some crazy dance moves from our jungle friends. Take a look here: http://vimeo.com/48720369 We looked at lots of different animals living in the jungle and we watched a video about Ursula the brown bear. We saw how she spends her time in her jungle home. http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/kids/animals-pets-kids/wild-detectives-kids/wd-ep3-bearmeeting/ We learned some funny jungle poems, ‘My hippo has the hiccups’ and ‘Way down South’. We made jungle masks in art and had great fun roaming around the jungle in our masks making lots of jungle sounds!
Cutting
We have been working hard practicing our cutting skills and are getting better and better each week. Here we are hard at work with our cutting books and cutting out our rainbows for art.
English
We started getting library books as part of Homework this month and we are really enjoying reading. We practice our reading every day in school and at home. Here we are reading some big books all about the jungle. We also love playing games with our new wow words each day. We play “Roll, Say, Keep”, “Bingo” and “Snap”.
Garden of Remembrance
We each made a flower to put in our garden of remembrance. In our garden, we remember all the people who are not with us anymore.
Fear an phoist agus Bean an bhainne
We had great fun dressing up to do our little Irish play. The fear an bhainne and bean an phoist called to the door. They spoke to us in Irish and everything! Bhaineamar an taitneamh as!!
Cad atá sa bhosca lóin?
We learned how to describe what we have in our lunch boxes as Gaeilge. Each day we tell teacher what lunch we have in our bosca lóin as Gaeilge.
Science Week
For science week we did some really interesting light experiments. We learned that light travels in a straight line and we learned how shadows are formed. We even made our own shadows in the classroom using a torch, the whiteboard and our hands! The shadow was formed when our hands blocked the light! We went outside and made shadows in the yard. We chased our shadows around! It was hilarious trying to catch ourselves!!!
Old Toys
In History we learned about toys long ago. It was interesting to see the toys that our parents might have played with when they were younger. We learned that some toys and games have stayed the same and others have really changed! Here we are looking at some old toys.
Posting our letters
At the start of December we wrote our letters to Santa Claus which was very exciting. We even got to go to the post office across the road and post our letters off to Santa. Helen in the post office was so nice to us and even gave us a little treat!
Christmas Art
We made lovely Rudolph masks out of paper plates and we made beautiful Christmas cottages too. We love painting and cutting in our class!
Santa’s Letter!
A few days before our Christmas holidays we got a very special surprise. Mr.Feeney came to our class with a package that had arrived for our class. It was a package from Santa!! We were so excited to see what was in the package. There were treats for us all and a very special letter from Santa Claus. We couldn’t believe Santa wrote to us! We know he is very busy at this time of year! He thanked us for our letters and he told us we have lovely handwriting. He said he loved school when he was our age! It was fantastic to get a letter from Santa!
Houses
This month we learned all about houses! It was great fun. We learned that there are many different types of houses. We tried to find lots of different shapes when looking at houses and we even made our own houses out of different shapes for Art.
We learned that houses are built from many different materials. We read the story of The Three Little Pigs and looked at the materials they used.
Then we designed our own houses out of materials we found in our classroom.
We looked at houses long ago and compared them to houses now. We looked at artifacts found in houses long ago and had to guess what they were! That was great fun!
Tennis
There was great excitement in Senior Infants when a tennis coach came to teach us some tennis skills! We had great fun throwing, catching and bouncing tennis balls and trying to balance the tennis ball on our rackets!
Senior Infants Superstars!
Some superstars of the future! Teacher loves when we show and tell the class how we’re getting on outside of school in our other activities! She is very proud of us!
