We had a wonderful day in Lisnagry on March 15th, as we joined with thousands of schools across Ireland in commemorating the 1916 Rising and celebrating Proclamation Day. The day was packed with different activities remembering the past and celebrating the present.Everybody dressed up in 1916 attire which added to the atmosphere of the day.
The day began with 6th class pupils displaying their projects in the Halla and explaining them to some of our younger pupils. We are also very grateful for all the grandparents who visited and spoke to the infants all about school and life when they were young.

To mark this unique occasion,we has a special school assembly in the halla where members of each class read the 1916 proclamation. Then our 6th class pupils read their interpretation of it and what the proclamation means to them and our traditional musicians played some traditional airs. All the school then sang Oro se do bheatha bhaile.

Next we had our flag raising ceremony in front of the school. This was the highlight of the occasion. The youngest girl in the school Mya Byrne in Junior Infants and the oldest boy Rory Moore from 6th class had the honour of raising the tricolour. The Principal Mr Feeney spoke to the students about the importance of respecting our national flag.We finished the outdoor ceremony by all singing our National Anthem.

We really enjoyed our whole school commemorative ceilí. This was a popular social event at the time of the 1916 rising. In the afternoon the boys and girls played a hurling and football match representing the teams who played in the 1916 All-Ireland finals.
